Host-Based Access Control
Advantages: Easiest to set up, pretty reliable
Disadvantages: Authorizes the computer, not the user

- Allow access to selected hosts or subnets.

- Restriction by IP address/subnet
- User authentication
- Allow access based on user's credentials

- Basic authentication (passwords)
- Digest authentication (a better password system)
- Certificate-based authentication (cryptographic signatures)
