MP3 File Types

MP3 files can be downloaded or streamed. Streaming files play immediately and have special header information that gives artist, title, genre and year.

For downloading the Web server downloads the whole MP3 file and passes it to MP3 player for playing.

For streaming, the Web server downloads a playlist, which is just a list of URLs, and passes that to MP3 player. The MP3 player fetches the URL and starts streaming.
